Willard Foley III is the Founder – Managing Director at PlaidSky Advisors; his journey into finance began with a single college class, sparking a curiosity that endured. Fresh out of Clarion University with a finance degree, he started out in purchasing, and managing steel procurement for Detroit automakers. Yet, his interest in investments never waned. In 1985, when a role as an investment advisor opened up, Willard leapt at the chance. “Little did I understand at the time how a common sense straightforward approach to investing coupled with care and understandable communication could so positively influence the lives of the many people who offered an opportunity to earn their trust.,” he says. “On a personal level the journey has truly been fulfilling and rewarding beyond anything I might have remotely imagined.”
Willard has always called Warren, Pennsylvania home, sharing his life with his high school sweetheart and wife, Betsy, of over 40 years. Together, they’ve raised a family—one son, two daughters, and three cherished granddaughters—and have built memories across their favorite places, whether boating, traveling, or watching sunsets along the Gulf of Mexico.
For Willard, plaques on a wall celebrating his decades of experience are evidence of his contributions to the industry, but the only recognitions that have real life meaning are when an individual or a family expresses gratitude for the support and guidance he has provided over the years. Seeing clients reach their financial goals and knowing he played a role in their journey is what he finds most meaningful. “When a client places their trust in us,” he says, “we don’t take it lightly. We work hard to honor that responsibility.”
With the launch of PlaidSky Advisors, Willard is excited to continue to work alongside a talented team, bringing the same steadfast dedication to both new and long-standing relationships.
Willard’s personal hobbies range from golfing and outdoor pursuits to gardening and maintaining his “back 40.” He also loves wandering back roads he’s never traveled before, always seeking the next chapter in life’s adventure.
